Quilling is done by inserting the end of a long thin strip of paper into a quilling tool,
grasping the tool in one hand and holding the paper in place with the other hand,
rotating the tool till the length of paper is wound into a tight circle.  Glue the end of
the strip to the coil (you can't really use too little glue but you definitely don't want
too much).  Just remember a dab will do it.  There are people who do this just by
rolling the paper in their hands with no tool, but we find the tool to be very helpful.
Basic Quilling tools are as
followed:
Quilling Tool
Quilling Paper
Straight Pins
Cork Board
Ruler
Glue
(it is very useful to have a glue
bottlethat has a very small opening)
Tweezers can also be helpful.
A Gathered Circle-  is
achieved by altering a loose
circle.  Place a straight pin
inside the first loop. Using a
second pin inside the center
circle, gather the remaining
loops at the opposite end.
Put a
small dab of glue on
top of the loops and spread
it around to make sure the
gather stays.
Let the glue dry.
Tight Circle- Simply glue the
end tab without releasing the
coil.

Diamond- Make an eye, turn it
and pinch the opposite ends.

Triangle- Pinch a loose circle
on three sides.

Eye- Pinch two sides of a loose
coil on opposite sides.

Shaped Teardrop- Make a
teardrop and bend it near the
point.

Gumdrop- With a loose circle
pinch two sides low.

Web Foot- Make an eye and
push in on one side.
Loose Circle-  While it is still
on the tool release the paper.
Remove & glue.

Square- Create a diamond and
straighten it out.

Rectangle- Make an eye and
rotate it just a tad and pinch on
both sides. Straighten it.

Teardrop- Pinch one side of a
loose coil.

Shaped Eye- Bend an eye in an
"S" shape.

Heart- Create an loose circle
pinch one side then make an
indentation on the opposite side.

Crescent- Pinch two points in
a loose circle not quite opposite
each other and bend them
inward.
