1. Go to the templates page and print out the patterns for this
project.

2. Cut out the template and trace around them on a 1" piece of
Styrofoam.  I like to use a hot wire cutter to cut out the foam it
makes it very quick and there is a lot less mess.  If you don't
have a wire cutter you can use a serrated blade.

3. After all the leaves have been cut out begin placing them in a
frame like order on a piece of 1/2" Styrofoam.

4. Using a bone folder or rounded marker gently roll over the leaf
with steady pressure to condense it, the popping noise is normal.
Be very careful going over the thin areas the pressure make
cause them to snap off.

5. Use the folding bone or  rounded marker, go around the edges
of all the cut out pieces to get rid of the blunt edges.

6. Once you have them in place begin gluing the pieces down
securing them with straight pins to ensure they stay in place.

7. Place the letters in the center of the leaf frame you just created
and glue them in place.
8. Allow to dry for the recommended time (check the glue bottle for recommendation)  I allow a minimum of 12
hours to make sure there is a very strong bond.

9. After the glue has dried take all the pins out and begin cutting
around the edge to make the bottom layer of Styrofoam even
with the leaves edge.

10. Now would be the time to add any detail you want in your
leave, ie veining.

11. Cover the whole thing with air dry clay.  Make sure to get
in between the letters and on the sides of the sign.

12. Create some shapes with some of the air dry clay and clay dedicated cookie cutters.  If you don't have any
cookie cutters use the templates from the Styrofoam.  Be sure to put a hole in the top of the leaves to hang them
from.

13.  Allow the clay to dry completely.

14. Apply a dark green base coat over the entire sign and the extra clay leaves.

15.  For the inside of the sign dip your paintbrush with the rusty red color and then into the gold color.  Cover as
much as is pleasing to you.

16. Using a pretty dry brush gently go over the top of the letters and leaves with the gold paint.

17. For the extra clay leaves I used a little orange to give them a faux corroded copper look.

18. When the sign is totally dry screw two eye hooks on to the top (you may want to add a little glue for strength)
and three in the bottom.

19. Tie a piece of twine to the top two eye hooks for a hanger

20. Tie more twine to the extra clay pieces and hang them from the bottom eye hooks.

* If you intend to use your sign outside you will want to cover it with a sealant to protect it from the elements.
