1. Begin by making sure all the surfaces that you
will be putting craft foam on are clean and dry,
as this will ensure that your tape will make good
contact with your bucket. *For this project
we used a galvanized steel popcorn bucket.
2. Make a template of the shape of your
container by laying it on top of a piece of paper
and tracing as you roll the container over the
sheet of paper.
3. Tape your template to the top of the black
craft foam and cut out you first half of the
pumpkin. It took both sheets of black craft foam to cover our container but depending
on the size of your container it could take more or less.
4. Repeat step 2 until you have cut out both the black and the
orange craft foam to make two layers of foam on the bucket.
5. Tape the black craft foam onto the bucket.
6. Click on the template button in the supply list for a jack-o-lantern face or draw your
own. Print and cut out the template and lay it in the middle of the pre-cut orange craft
foam. Trace the face template on to the foam. Using your craft knife gently cut out the
face (make several gentle cuts instead of trying to get through the foam on the first pass).
6. Begin gluing the orange foam onto the black foam. Be careful not to put to much glue near
the face openings. This would cause the excess glue to come out.
7. Put come small clamps or clothes pins around the bucket to keep the orange on until the glue
dries. Use some of the foam scraps as a guard between the bucket and the clamp.
8. Cut several thin strips slightly longer than the height of the bucket to make the ribbing for
your pumpkin.
9. Put a thin bead of glue down the center of the strip and placing them evenly around the
bucket. Be sure to give them a slight curve to create the illusion of roundness. Hold each
one in place for a few seconds to allow the glue to make a good bond.
* Start your strips off using the face of the jack-o-lantern as the center.
